Roles in Discord are like hats: if you wear the hat, you have access to special channels or special abilities. This means that you can control what you see and what you do in Tech Fleet Discord.

How do you receive access to the career guidance channels in Discord?
There are two ways to do so!
The first way is to select your guidance areas you want to receive during the Onboarding Flow when you join.
The second way is to go to special channels to grant yourself access to areas for career guidance.
Tech Fleet Discord offers channels that are dedicated to guidance about job help, guidance about portfolios, or guidance about career areas in tech. We support U.X., product management, project management, development, and solutions architecture careers. We've got channels dedicated to each topic.
But! You won't see these channels until you "wear the hat", and get yourself the role for them! We do this so that you don't see notifications for things that don't interest you in Discord.

Let's learn how to assign yourself the roles for career guidance after onboarding in Tech Fleet Discord!
Head to the "GET GUIDANCE" channel category on the Tech Fleet Discord menu. You should see three channels:
In the Guidance General channel, you can receive general help about anything related to the community. This is open to everyone.
In the Career Path Roles channel, you can assign yourself roles to receive access and alerts to receive help for different career areas.
In the Job Help Roles channel, you can assign yourself roles to receive access and alerts to receive portfolio help.
To assign yourself a role in one of these channels, simply head to the channel and click the emoji associated with each role. You'll see instructions about each role. Each one is associated with a channel that you can gain access to.
Let's go through an example
Let's say you want to get help with your portfolio.
Step 1: Head to the Job Help Roles channel
Step 2: Find the emoji associated with the portfolio help channel.
Step 3: Click on the emoji
Step 4: You should now see the Portfolio Job Guidance channel!
Step 5: Repeat the process for any other areas of guidance you want to receive.
